Playback Theatre as a Tool for Dialogue
The Playback Theatre technique is used widely in both therapeutic and artistic settings. Although it is unique in its ability to serve both arenas simultaneously, Playback Theatre is fundamentally about creating dialogue and connection through the telling and re-witnessing of our life experiences. These stories may be about trauma, family, work, love, hopes, fears, regrets, dreams or desires-- regardless, every story deserves to be listened to with an open ear. In Playback Theatre we attempt to honor our differences by celebrating our commonalties. “People need to tell their stories,” writes Jo Salas, co-creator of Playback Theatre, “It’s a basic human imperative. From the telling of our stories comes our sense of identity, our place in the world, and our compass of the world itself.”
